MURRAY — A motorist who swerved to avoid hitting a dog in the road ended up in Little Cottonwood Creek.

It happened just before 6 a.m. at 4800 South and 500 West.

Murray police say the vehicle was traveling north on 500 West when the woman driving swerved to miss a dog. Her car went off the road, over a curb, through a fence and launched into the water, landing upside down.

The 25-year-old driver was still in the vehicle when police arrived.

"Officers were able to get in the water and open the door and assist her in getting out," said Sgt. Brian Wright of the Murray Police Department.

He said the woman was cold but had only minor injuries.
