SALT LAKE CITY — The City Council approved a controversial ordinance Tuesday night that allows for pubs to be built in some Salt Lake neighborhoods.

It was a heated discussion on both sides as the vote passed 6-1, with Charlie Luke opposing. It means roughly 12 to 15 pre-determined areas of Salt Lake will now allow alcohol-related businesses to move in.

But residents won't start seeing pubs pop up in their neighborhoods anytime soon. There are some serious restrictions about the places where potential businesses selling alcohol can be located.

The prime concentration of that area being between South Temple and 400 South, from 300 East to 500 East.

More information will be posted as it becomes available. Stay with ksl.com, KSL TV and KSL Newsradio for the latest updates.
